Designing A Cholesterol Diet
Friday, January 19th, 2007
A cholesterol diet is really a diet that most individuals should be on. There are a number of reasons why that is but the leading one is that most adults do have elevated levels of cholesterol. These levels can lead to health concerns such as stroke and heart disease. Many people think that a cholesterol diet must somehow limit the meats that are consumed, but that is only part of the process. There is much more to it than that. A good diet will need to include several aspects.
First, you should choose the right fats to include in your diet. Looking at labels, you can see what fats are in a product. You don’t want any type of saturated fats in your diet. But, you do want good fats such as those that contain omega 3. Non saturated fats are critical to your diet. Avoid trans fats that simply clog up your arteries and leave you with high cholesterol numbers.
In addition, you need to consume a good amount of fruits and vegetables. These will provide your body with antioxidants and other nutrients that are required for good health. Look for foods that are rich in fiber, too. Whole grain foods are a must instead of those that are high in “white” carbohydrates. A simple switch from white rice to that of whole grain will have a considerable benefit.
A cholesterol diet needs to include several other things, too. To lower your cholesterol, exercise and stay within a healthy weight limit. By meshing these things together, you can lower your cholesterol levels considerably, without the help of medications. Always adjust your diet with your doctor’s approval, of course. With so many people that are facing the facts of high cholesterol, its important to make decisions that are smarter for your health today. Many times, diet adjustments are all you need.
